Telecoms Regulator OFCOM say new rules will make it easier and faster to change broadband provider to another company.

Customers will soon only need to contact the new company they want to deal with, even if they are switching to a different type of service (ie. radio, satellite, fibre, etc).

Ofcom said the “one touch” switching process could take as little as a day, with customers owed compensation if it takes longer.

This will also apply to changing telephone line provider.

Providers such as BT, Sky, and TalkTalk all use the Openreach network, and moving away from one of those providers to another has been difficult for too long.

When these new rules come into play, even if you are with Virgin (who primarily operate on their own fibre network), the process will be the same.

This all comes into play in April 2023.
