We are now past the first quarter of the year. Could starting a new month with a cleaner, quicker, more productive PC be the best start head start you need to make things happen this May!

Servicing your own PC software to improve performance could well be a task that becomes addictive, once you see the results. Here are some FREE tools and tips on what you can do to make your day at your computer leas stressful and more productive. (Sorry Mac users, these suggestions are aimed at Windows users, however similar tools are also available on Macs too)

1 – Download C Cleaner Tool

Warning – Running C Cleaner could remove data on your PC, be careful how you use it. C Cleaner is a deep clean tool which can optimise your PC tidying down all your temporary internet folders and temporary files. You can pay for an advanced tool, but we don’t feel that this is completley necessary for good results.

2 – Download MalwareBytes

MalwareBytes is an Anti Virus software program which will remove AdWare, PopUps, Malware and Spam software on your PC. Ever noticed the fake search engine popping up when you use the internet? Sometimes it is not obvious that you could have Malware on your PC, run this tool and you could be surprised. We advise you remove this after running the tool (unless you are planning on buying it, as the program does not actively protect your PC on the free version, but could interfere with your Anti Virus)

3 – Tidy your desktop icons

A cluttered desktop makes things disorganized and hard to find, but it can also slow computers down. The purpose of the desktop is to be interactive, not to store files. Its job is makes it easy for you to navigate your computer and give you information.

If you have a large amount of files on your desktop, it is slowing down your computer. Those files need to be reorganized in your other folders. If you have multiple widgets running on your desktop or dashboard, they could be slowing your computer down also.

4 – Remove Old and Unused Software

Keeping your computer updated could be a greater part of its health than you think. When companies update the software, this software is meant to work better with your operating system.

You want to make sure your hardware, your operating system, and your software are all on the same page. Sometimes new updates have bug fixes that can improve the overall operating speed of your computer.

5 – Delete unwanted files / Not enough storage space

Because of the way “Virtual Memory” works, RAM files get swapped out onto the hard disk. If the hard disk doesn’t have very much space, it will slow the process down. If your computer has less than 10 percent of the total hard drive space free, it will begin to slow down.

We like to explain a full hard drive like a bus trying to turn around in a small car park. The more full the car park is, the more difficult it is to manoeuvre.
